Horizon Europe & Euratom

The European funding program Horizon Europe replaces H2020 from 2021 and will fund research projects until 2027.

If you benefit from this type of funding, you are required to disseminate all your publications in open access. All peer-reviewed publications of a project must be made openly available through a repository

Open access dissemination must meet the following criteria:

upload a copy of the published version or the final peer-reviewed manuscript accepted for publication (i.e. Author Accepted Manuscript - AAM; or author's postprint) in a repository
immediat open access (i.e. no embargo period ) with a CC-BY or equivalent license for articles (at least for the AAM); or with a CC BY-NC, CC BY-ND or equivalent license prohibiting commercial use or derivative works, for monographs and other long texts, with information about any research outputs, tools or instruments necessary to substantiate the conclusions of the scientific publication. Moreover, you must aim to deposit at the same time the research data needed to validate the results presented in the deposited scientific publication.

Remember to fill in the "European research project" field with the grant number when submitting your publication to univOAK.

Only costs for APC (article processing charges) in a fully Open Access journal or platform can be charged to the project. An APC to publish in a traditional subscription-based journal that offers an Open Access option (so-called Hybrid journals), will not be covered under the grant.

You should be aware that you are required to retain sufficient intellectual property rights (IPR) to comply with these open access obligations.

H2020

If you have received funding under the H2020 programs (2014-2020), you are required to upload your publications resulting from these European funds in a repository.

As soon as an article is published, you must deposit the full text in the university's repository:

if your publication is available in open access on the publisher website (after payment of APC, for example), you can deposit the full text in univOAK immediately. You can also upload the publisher's PDF file under the same Creative Commons license as the PDF file (e.g. CC- BY).
if your publication is not in open access on the publisher website, you have to upload the final author's version of your text (= after peer review) with an embargo period of 6 or 12 months (depending on the discipline).

Remember to fill in the "European research project" field with the grant number when submitting your publication to univOAK.

Agence nationale de la recherche (ANR) - Call for projects 2022 and beyond

All peer-reviewed scientific publications resulting from ANR-funded projects must be deposited with a CC-BY or equivalent license in HAL, the french national repository, immediately after publication in accordance with Plan S.

3 ways for immediate open access:

Publication in a natively open access journal
Publication in a subscription journal that is part of a transformative agreement
Publication in a subscription journal. The publisher's version or the author accepted manuscript will be deposited in HAL by the authors under a CC-BY license, implementing the Rights Retention Strategy (RRS).

The ANR encourages pre-prints to be deposited in open platforms or repositories, and to use persistent or unique identifiers (DOI or HAL Id, for example).

UnivOAK repository is connected to HAL, so a single deposit in univOAK is sufficient. Remember to fill in the "ANR project" field with the grant number when submitting your publication to univOAK.

L'Agence nationale de la recherche (ANR) (2019-2021)

You are required to share in open access your publications resulting from an ANR funding.

As soon as an article is published, you must deposit the full text in the university's repository:

National Institute of Health (NIH)

You are required to make peer-reviewed publications resulting from NIH funding available in open access. Publications must be made available in PubMed Central with a maximum 12-month embargo. There are two ways to meet this obligation:

Final published article : publisher post the article in PubMed Central (if the journal does not post automatically in PubMed Central, authors must make special arrangements)
Final Peer-Reviewed Manuscript (= Author accepted manuscript) : authors or their designee must submit manuscripts to the le NIH Manuscript Submission system (NIHMS)

By 2026, all federally funded research must be immediately open access. Government agencies are currently updating their open access and data sharing plans to comply with the new policies. For more information, click here.

Unistra and Idex funding

Since January 2020, publications by Unistra researchers must be shared in open access on the univOAK repository.
